In my early career, I worked in the sports and leisure industry in administration and management positions. I took time out between 1992 and 1994 to travel around Asia, Australia and New Zealand. This trip opened my eyes to different traditions, beliefs and systems of health and wellbeing. I was keen to learn more, knowing then that I wanted to be a hands-on practitioner. What followed were years of training, personal and practitioner development, and further travel. In 2000, I graduated from the University of Westminster, London with a BSc in Health Sciences and Complementary Therapies. Between 2010 and 2013 I volunteered with the charity, Healing Hands Network, offering therapies to civilian survivors of war in Sarajevo, Bosnia, going out each year for a 2-week period. In 2013, I worked as an Aromatherapist for Sue Ryder in their palliative care unit within West Berkshire Community Hospital and in the same year completed a Diploma in Adapting Complementary Therapies in Cancer and Supportive Care from The Christie NHS Trust, in Manchester. In late 2013, I was successful in my first full time position as a Cancer and Palliative Care Complementary Therapist, with Dimbleby Cancer Care based in Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust, London. Here I was offering therapies to oncology and haematology patients. 2014 saw a move to UCLH Macmillan Cancer Centre, London as the Senior Complementary Therapist/Service Manager (covering sabbatical leave), where I managed a team of therapists, and continued to offer therapies for patients. Between 2016 and 2017, I had the pleasure to work as a massage therapist, yin yoga and meditation teacher at Suraylila Retreat Centre in SW Spain and volunteered in their permaculture project. From 2020 to 2022 I was fortunate to be the first, full time, Integrated Therapist at The Christie NHS Trust in Manchester, supporting patients through their cancer treatments. I currently work there on a part time basis and am a tutor within their Integrated Therapies Training Unit. At the heart of my practice is an intention is to create an environment where you feel comfortable and safe. A place where you can take a breath, slow down and settle into yourself. To enable you to find a space within which is quiet and still and where pain and discomfort is eased. |
