Daith Piercings for migraine headaches have received an enormous amount of coverage in social media since it was discovered, by chance, that they can prevent migraine attacks.

10% of women and 5% of men have migraines and for many they can be very disabling. Most migraineurs live with their headaches because they believe little can be done.

Tracy Perkins has been working alongside Dr Chris Blatchley founder of the London Migraine Clinic, the first specialist medical clinic to ensure the piercing is made in exactly the right position and under medical conditions.

Until now, most piercings have been done in piercing parlours with no formal assessment of the migraines and an inexact method of assessing where to put the piercing. Everybody's ear shape is different and it is easy to miss the exact position of the Point Zero acupuncture point which must be pierced for best effect. At Manchester Acupuncture & Holistic Clinic we use specialist techniques to ensure that Point Zero is identified correctly..

There is no single treatment for migraines. Hopefully one can eliminate the attacks almost completely, but the realistic aim is to reduce the frequency and severity with as few side effects as possible.

Tracy has been specialising in piercing for 20 years. Conscious that it was mostly performed in back rooms to varying standards of hygiene and with little research into improving technique, she started Pierce Artist 10 years ago. Here she designed and improved tools and techniques for piercing, started a clinic that used medical standards of hygiene and sterilisation, and developed this into courses to teach her techniques to other piercers so that standards could be raised throughout the country. 

Recently one of the Pierce Artist studios in Denmark started to offer Daith Piercings and Tracy worked with them to have 3000 treatments performed for migraines over the last 9 months, researching ways to improve the technique.  She is now part of the government funded research into Daith piercing for migraine.
